Thursday, 28 May 2009The Village Quire's first official public engagement. We were delighted to be the entertainment during tea at St Mary's Church, Hay-on-Wye for a visit by Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Standing in the West Gallery, we began with Psalm 100, in a setting from 1749 by Joseph Watts of Fenny Compton. During its performance, the Archbishop arrived and acknowedged our singing. Later, some of us added to the choir of St Mary's for evensong, at which Dr Williams was the preacher. To everyone's delight, the service was attended by Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town, the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu. |
